The National Postdoctoral Association (NPA) strongly supports the free communication of scientific knowledge and ideas. The open and transparent exchange of scientific knowledge within the scientific community and to the public is a vital component of the scientific process and enhances the quality of the research enterprise. The NPA offers many resources to help members communicate their work to the public and policy makers.

The NPA recognizes that many of our members participated in any one of the many events or marches that took place in support of science. There are also additional ways of engaging the public in discussions of science, including public speaking engagements with your local community, judging science fairs, using social media, and advocating for science. In addition to one-time events, these strategies help establish a means for continued discussion of issues facing the research community and have a long-term impact on policy. For additional references, please refer to the NPA resources to help you advocate more effectively, including a How to Advocate Information Sheet, a Lobbying Primer, and Understanding the Legislative Process.
